The True Meaning Of Family In The 21st Century

One of the oldest traditions that have survived for thousands of years has to be family. But, the true meaning of this word has changed over time. Less than one generation back, the values that were held by this word are very different to how it might be today. In the eastern world, the values are still strong, whereas the western world is all about independence.

Nobody likes to be tied down to their parents and their roots and they wait with bated breath to go out there and explore. Unfortunately, this might not always be a good thing. But, one strong aspect of such a system is that individuals quickly learn to be independent and can survive on their own without any problem whatsoever.

Traditionally, you would associate family with success and support. With the backing of your people, it is hard to succeed in life and be who you want to be. After all, it is your parents who are going to be by your side through thick and thin. Hence, you would want to make sure that you tap into this unlimited source of support every time you feel down and out. This is after all what being together is fundamentally about.

At different stages in life, you will realize this and how being with another person usually dictates your rate of success. Even if you don’t have a traditional relationship with your parents or your siblings, you can still have a close bond with people who might not necessarily be your blood relatives. This kind of phenomenon is what defines family in the present time that we live in.
